Helmet Check. GoPro Check. Anything else? Let's do this! Fortunately for these guys their Altitude Awareness Device was working properly and automatically fired a backup chute deployment giving them little time to realize the extent of their situation until they slide into a corn field.

Notice how the first attempt to check altitude is after they're comfortably placed on terra firma. A little late. Three skydivers forget to pull their cord, and three AADs fire and prevent natural selection.

You mean "chute" as in "parachute".

A backup shoot would either require a soundstage, or mean someone ended up dead due to a gunshot wound.

Just a reminder that if at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

It's a great hobby if you're into insurance fraud and severely depressed.

Does it make me an asshole if I laughed at that for way too long?

Not really, my wife said her mom's landlord died skydiving but the guy was a certified instructor and had over 200 successful jumps and had just filed bankruptcy. She said he wasn't a very nice guy.

I'm guessing they were so busy mugging for the camera that they lost all situational awareness. It does look like green helmet guy looks at this altimeter the instant the auto chute pops. When the pros are filming, don't they usually have a spotter jumper along to keep an eye on things? These guys are damned lucky.

So they were one fail safe away from filming a snuff film?

That's scary.

Skydivers pass pumpkin around at altitude, then decide to just let physics handle the landing.

Best skydiving story of all time.

Surprising a life insurance policy would pay out on a skydiving accident. I would think a lot of policies would deny claims for stuff like skydiving and scubadiving accidents unless you pay a boatload extra for a rider to cover that. Which I suppose if you're planning on insurance fraud you would probably sign up for.

Also if he was an instructor he would probably have that rider

Which is why my brother will never skydive again.
